I showed my cousin this song and some other Crane Wives songs and she didn't like it (HOW DARE HER IK IT'S SO RIDICULOUS, ahem) and I've come to the conclusion that maybe only traumatized, depressed, or mentally ill people can understand and love this music 😞 (btw this is just a joke so don't get offended, if u are or not mentally ill not trying to make fun of you or anyone)

I love this song so much because it can work as so many things. It can work as a sad love song, it can work as a song about siblings who pretend that they dont care about eachother when they actually do, it can work as a song about a mentor who feels like they failed the person they're teaching or that actually HAVE failed the person they're teaching, it can work as a song about a parent forced to abandon their own child, or abandoning their child by choice but regretting it deeply, it can work as a song about a parent who neglected their child on accident, or on purpose but regretted it, it can work as a song about a parent who was a good parent, but made questionable decisions and think they arent a good parent, etc etc

This song fits with so many things, you can interpret it as song about someone realizing that they were being used by their close friend and/or lover, you can interpret it as a song about siblings that care about eachother but were never allowed to show it, you can interpret it as a song about a person who is only viewed as another person's legacy, you can interpret it as a song about a child realising that their parent was a horrible person, you can interpret it as a song about a person who's realising that their parent was actually abusive, etc etc

I can't help but think of my mother when I listen to this song. We have an incredibly strained relationship due to drug abuse and her not really being in my life. I just like to think she has a reson for leaving me, it helps the pain

What I think is cool is that I feel the beat matches the lyrics, like this song is fast paced because the title is rockslide, I'm trying to listen to as many Crane Wives songs I can so I just thought this was a cool detail I noticed

I doubt this is what the origin of the lyric is, if it means anything, but I interpret it to be a toxic relationship where one masks their emotions to avoid conflict and the other manipulates them into thinking they are mentally well when they arent, which leads to very hateful feelings towards eachother.

this song really emotional, it feels like camping with memories

"I shine only with the light you gave me" I don't interpret this line as someone in an abusive relationship. To me, it reminds me of how I'm changing myself for the better, little by little, because of my girlfriend. She's the kindest, funniest person I've ever met, and when I make decisions, I now think what she would have done. How would she react if I said that rude thing to someone, how would she react if I did that? It's not in an unhealthy way, I just stop and consider what I'm going to do. Also, she absolutely humbled me in the card game Cat Lady. She completely and utterly crushed me in that. Shoutout to you, Luna! <3
